Biography – Voice Teacher & Talented Singer

Wendy is a highly skilled, multi-stylistic singer/songwriter, recording artist, performer and voice teacher. The roots of her style reflect the vast landscape of American music: Musical Theater, Jazz, country, R&B, pop, soul, as well as Classical. Not only does she sing and teach all of these styles, but she integrates them into her well-crafted bluesy songs. Her passion and creative spirit prevail in her music, performances and teaching.

Waller has performed and studied in the United States and Europe. Her personal voice studies have led her from classical to Functional Singing. Her education includes: a BA from San Jose State University in Jazz Studies, 3rd Stream Studies and Classical Voice at The New England Conservatory of Music and Art Song with Elly Ameling and Jörg Demus at The Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany. In the summer of 2013 Waller began her functional singing studies taking a three level intensive course in Somatic Voicework™ the LoVitri Method. Since then she has studied 4 years at the Institute for Vocal Advancement. She then commenced her studies in 2017 in, Somatic Voicework™ the LoVetri Method at Baldwin Wallace University, Cleveland, Ohio. She keeps her studies current by reviewing the Somatic Voicework™ level training and by taking multiple Somatic Voicework™ webinars and workshops annually.

She also continues to study and grow as a performer and singer in order to maintain her high integrity and devotion to her craft in teaching, singing and performing.

Methodology for Singing Lessons

My methodology is grounded in functional singing technique, Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method which honors the student’s anatomy, physiology, vocal health and spirit. I understand the anatomy of the vocal mechanism and how it responds with the physical systems that enable it to work. In understanding the function of these systems I can hear where and how you may be inhibiting vocal production. This allows me to foster healthy vocal growth and training through exercises that encourage muscle development, alignment, relaxation and strength that are all tailored to your specific vocal tendencies. In addition, special attention is paid to your spirit and creativity.

The ultimate goal is for you to sing expressively and freely in your own unique sound. Because this technique focuses on how the student responds physiologically and not on a perception of how one should sound; a student can easily train to sing in multiple styles as long as each style is sung in a healthy manner with integrity and respect to the genre.

My Philosophy In A Nutshell As A Voice Coach

  • As a teacher, it is my job to guild the student toward a healthy, natural way of singing.
  • To help nurture a student’s creative spark and ultimately to get out of the way.
  • A students’ unique voice and self must be handled with the utmost care.
  • Everyone deserves to sing.
  • Be kind, be gracious, be sensitive.
  • Keep learning and growing as a teacher, musician and human!
  • Do No Harm
